There are no words that better describe Lake of the Woods than behemoth and gargantuan. This massive lake spreads over 1,679 square miles and has over 25,000 miles of shoreline (not including the 14,552 islands) which still remain as a remnant of the vast prehistoric Lake Agissiz which spanned the center of North America.
With that being said, much of Lake of the Woods is wilderness area, even though some parts of the lake run into well-populated areas of Ontario and Manitoba.
